Tri-State History

It would take us numerous web pages to inform our visitors about the awesome and extensive history of our area.  So many other web sites have already done this so well, that we see no reason to try and duplicate their efforts.  Below are links to these wonderful history sites.

SMARC highly recommends all family historians to  learn our history and the county formations of our tri-state area.  Why?  Without this knowledge, a researcher will be very lost in understanding how their ancestors lived and where to find information about them.

Biographies of individuals are brief summaries of a person's life and often contain very helpful information.  However, they were written based on that particular author's research; and their accuracy will depend on just how detailed and thorough that author performed their research.  Prior to the internet, it was very costly and time-consuming to conduct genealogy research covering a geographical area beyond one county at a time.  Consequently, old biographies may have been based on research conclusions that did not include the 'big picture'.  Unfortunately, there are also numerous fraudulent biographies on the internet.  SMARC suggests that  biographies be used merely as a research tool and not viewed as factual.  If there are no sources cited or the information in a biography cannot be duplicated with sound genealogical research practices, it should be ignored.
