The Civil War
1861-1865

TN, GA and NC all seceded from the Union and were part of the Confederacy.  However, Union troups were raised in East Tennessee.  North Georgia had many  Union sympathizers at the beginning of the war. So, it's not surprising to find our Tri-State area's men enlisting into the Union forces in TN.

Enlisting was most often into companies that had other members of their families. Therefore, not all men living in one county enlisted into a regiment raised in their home county.  It might be into a neighboring county company or one even across state lines.
